What if I am Unable to Continue Caring for the Child?

Many families create plans in case they won’t be able to care for their children in the future. Establishing a prospective successor guardian for the child is a way to formalize this plan.  Completion ahead of time will minimize the effects on the child and prevent additional involvement in the child welfare system. Note, the process to designate a successor guardian for the transfer of subsidized guardianship under the subsidized guardianship program and the appointment of a successor guardian via court order are two separate things.
