Planning online learning activities

Women at desk thinkingAt this point in her online course design process, Professor Marcy has mapped out the units (lessons) of her course structure. She also has learning objectives, assessment strategies and some good ideas for what topics to cover in each unit of the course. Marcy is now focused on one particular course unit within which she would like to include some learning activities. Marcy is considering various instructional methods, media and technologies, and communication components to facilitate various types of meaningful interactions including learner-content, learner-instructor, and learner-learner.

Like Marcy, you too will be developing online learning activities that involve a variety of different types of instructional interactions. Let’s explore a few examples from various online courses to help give you some ideas. As you look at these examples consider how you might adapt some of these strategies to your own online teaching situation.
