Entomology (Insects) Toolkit for Success

Helpful Hints

  • Identifying insects helps you know if and what you need to do about them. Not all insects are harmful or cause damage! We encourage you to learn about them first before reaching for the “death spray.”
  • You are also not expected to memorize all the scientific names of the Insect Orders. Use the reading as a reference tool.
  • Use the Notes page to help you with insect life cycles, mouth parts and the difference in damage caused, and what beneficial insects can do.
  • There is a Q & A with an Expert webinar on October 13th from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. with UW-Madison entomologist, PJ Liesch. Remember to check the Q & A with the Experts module to get your connection link and submit your questions!
