The Physical Geography of Wisconsin: Landforms, Rocks, Soils, and Vegetation

In this first section of the course, you’ll learn about Wisconsin’s physical geography: the earth-system processes that have shaped the rocks and glacial deposits below Wisconsin’s landscapes, the forest ecosystems that are sites of recreation and economic extraction (in the form of logging), the farmland where food is grown, the soils beneath your feet wherever you roam; and the hills, rivers, and landforms that one find rambling through the state.

The host of the videos in this section is Joe Mason, a longtime physical geographer at the University. Joe’s strong love of Wisconsin’s physical features shines through, and helps give a sense of place to our knowledge of physical geography.
