How to Get Involved

As a graduate student at UW-Madison, you have a multitude of opportunities to become involved on campus and in your academic discipline. This involvement often enhances your academic, professional, and personal growth through developing advanced leadership, communication, and collaboration skills. It also provides opportunity for professional networking.

In Our Discipline

Students in the field of kinesiology have many opportunities to get involved beyond the classroom through professional organizations, research collaborations, and community engagement.

Graduate students are encouraged to join national and regional professional associations such as the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), National Academy of Kinesiology (NAK), and American Kinesiology Association (AKA). These organizations offer access to the latest research, networking opportunities, conferences, and student-specific programming.

To identify associations most relevant to your interests and career goals, talk with your academic advisor—they can help connect you to the communities that align with your area of study and professional aspirations.

In Our Program/Department

The following committees include Graduate Student members. If you are interested in serving on the committee, please contact the committee chair for more information.

On Campus & In the Community

The Wisconsin Idea is the principle that education should influence and improve people’s lives beyond the university classroom. For more than 100 years, this idea has guided the university’s work. You will find a list of ways to engage in campus and local community life at:
