Hello, my friends. My name is Abby.

Karibuni kwenye kipindi changu cha kupikia.

Welcome to my cooking show.

Leo nitawaonyesha jinsi ya kupika chapati tamu sana kwa ajili ya siku ya kuzaliwa ya rafiki yangu. 

Today I will show you how to cook very delicious chapati for my friend’s birthday.

Chapati ni chakula maarufu sana katika Afrika Mashariki, hasa Kenya na Tanzania. 

Chapati is a very popular food in East Africa, especially Kenya and Tanzania.

Watu wengi hupika chapati nyumbani ama kuinunua sokoni. 

Many people cook chapati at home or buy it at the market.

Chapati hupendwa sana wakati wa sherehe, likizo, na hata milo ya kila siku.

Chapati is loved during celebrations, holidays, and even everyday meals.

Unaweza kula chapati pamoja na vyakula vingine vya Afrika Mashariki. 

You can eat chapati with other East African foods.

Kwa mfano:

For example

  • Maharagwe (beans)
  • Nyama choma (roasted meat)
  • Mboga (vegetables) 

Lakini leo tutapika chapati kwa sherehe ya siku ya kuzaliwa ya rafiki yangu na anapenda kula chapati na maharagwe. 

But today, we will cook chapati for my friend’s birthday celebration and she likes to eat chapati with beans.

Kupika chapati, tunahitaji: 

To cook chapati, we need:

Unga wa ngano (flour)

Maji ya joto kidogo (warm water)

Chumvi (salt)

Mafuta (oil)

Bakuli (bowl)

Kijiko (spoon)

Sufuria (pan)

Kwanza, tunaweka unga wa ngano kwenye bakuli.
First, we put the wheat flour into a bowl.

Tunaongeza chumvi kidogo, halafu tunaweka maji polepole.
We add a little salt, then we add water slowly.

Tunachanganya mpaka tupate mchanganyiko laini.
We mix until we get a soft mixture.

Sasa tunakanda unga vizuri kwa dakika chache.
Now we knead the dough well for a few minutes.

Baada ya hapo, tunakata vipande vidogo na tunavisukuma kwa kutumia mpini.
After that, we cut small pieces and roll them using a rolling pin.

Tunaweka chapati kwenye kikaango chenye moto wa wastani.
We place the chapati on a pan over medium heat.

Tunapika kila upande mpaka iwe ya dhahabu na iwe imeiva vizuri.
We cook each side until it is golden and well cooked.

Tunaongeza mafuta kidogo ili iwe laini na tamu.
We add a little oil so it becomes soft and tasty.

Na sasa – chapati yetu iko tayari! Inaonekana tamu sana.
And now – our chapati is ready! It looks very delicious.

Mmm… ni tamu kweli!
Mmm… it is really delicious!

Ninafikiri rafiki yangu atafurahi sana siku yake ya kuzaliwa.
I think my friend will be very happy on their birthday.

Asanteni kwa kuangalia kipindi changu.
