Awon Owe Yoruba pe Mo Feran (Yoruba Proverbs that I Like) by Ajara Jagne

These past few weeks, I have been learning Yoruba proverbs.
Below are the ones I have found most striking that I have compiled from different online articles I have used to expand my proverb knowledge.

Ile oba t’o jo, ewa lo busi

Translation: When a king’s palace burns down, the re-built palace is more beautiful.

Ọbẹ̀ kìí gbé inú àgbà mì

Translation: The soup does not move round in an elder’s belly.

Adìyẹ ńlàágun, ìyẹ́ ara rẹ́ ni ò jẹ́ kà mọ̀

Translation: Hens are sweating too; it’s their feathers that conceals it.

Ile la ti n ko eso re ode

Translation: Charity begins at home.
