Cultural Note

In many Hausa-speaking communities, addu’a (prayer) and tuba (repentance) are central to everyday life and emotional well-being. When individuals experience regret or hardship, they often turn to Allah through prayer, asking for gafara (forgiveness) and guidance.

Inner peace, or kwanciyar hankali, is closely connected to spiritual balance, patience (hakuri), and acceptance. Rather than focusing only on personal control, people often emphasize trust in God’s plan and the importance of letting go of past mistakes through repentance and forgiveness.

At the same time, conversations about regret and peace are not only religious but also social—friends, family, and community members play an important role in offering comfort, advice, and emotional support.
