In the Places: Awon Ounje Ni Ibadan Part II by Ajara Jagne

This page is part two to my “On the Ground: Awon Ounje Ni Ibadan.” Here I speak about my experiences at my top three favorite places in Ibadan in Yoruba with an English translation following.

Spices

Ni naijiria, mo ti fe je suya sugbon mi o ni suya.

Mi o le je epa ati suya ni epa.

Ibadan mummy mi ti ra “grilled catfish” ni Spices fun mi nitori pe eja ni Spices o ni epa.

Spices ni ounje orisirisi pe ni dindin.

Ni Spices, mo je dodo, eja, asun, ati anamo oyinbo dindin.

Mo feran asun ni Spices nitori pe Spices ni iyo ati ata pe mo feran.

Mo feran eja ju. O tobi.

———

In Nigeria, I wanted to buy suya, but I cannot have suya.

I cannot eat peanuts, and suya has peanuts

My Ibadan mummy bought grilled catfish at Spices for me because the fish at Spices has no nuts

Spices have different fried foods.

At Spices, I ate fried plantain, fish, peppered goat, and fried potatoes.

I like the peppered goat at Spices because Spices has salt and pepper that I like.

I like the fish more. It is big.

Archives

Ni Naijiria, mo ti lo si Archives fun ounje lasan.

Mo feran Archives nitori pe Archives ni okele ati obe orisirisi.

Ni Archives mo feran lati ra obe ila ati eba.

Pelu obe ila mi, mo feran eran ewure meeji ati eran maalu meta.

Mi o feran iresi ni Archives nitiori pe won ni ata o por.

Mo feran eba ati obe ila ni Archives nitori pe mo feran obe ila ati awon obe orisirisi pe yoo.

In Nigeria, I went to Archives for lunch.

I like Archives because Archives has sawllows and different soups.

At Archives, I like to buy the okra soup and fermented garri swallow.

With my okra soup, I like 2 pieces of goat meat and 3 pieces of beef.

I do not like the rice at Arhiches because they have too much pepper.

I like the fermented garri swallow and okra soup at Archives because I like okra soup and different soups that draw.

Taiwo the Puff Puff Man

Taiwo ni ore mi.

Mo ti lo si ra puff puff lojojumo ni Naijiria.

Mo ti ra puff puff fun kilassi mi nitori pe mo ti feran kilassi mi.

Mo feran puff puff Taiwo nitori pe o dun ati o gbona.

Taiwo ni puff puff, spring rolls, ati samosas.

Mo feran springs rolls ati samosas pelu.

———

Taiwo is my friend.

I bought puffpuff every day in Nigeria.

I bought puff puff for my class because I liked my class.

I like Taiwo’s puff puff because it is delicious and hot.

Taiwo has puff puff, spring rolls, and samosas.

I like spring rolls and samosas too.
