Appendix 5: Template for Common Measures Survey

Text for Survey #1

Note: If you are planning on using many common measures or use measures across categories, you can break up into multiple surveys (the NRMN Coordination Center launched two common measures surveys), the text for which can be found below and adapted to your needs.

During the next few weeks, the [coordination center name] will launch a survey/series of surveys to collect feedback on the common measures we will use as a research community. It is important that at least one person from each team complete each survey, as the surveys are the last opportunity for you to share feedback before we finalize the common measures that we agree to use as a community for the next X years. If we do not receive feedback from your research team by the deadline, we will assume agreement.

The deadline to complete this first survey is [insert date here].

The focus of this survey is [insert focus of survey, e.g. Demographics]. Measures in other categories will be included in future surveys. We have also not included items such as name, geo/zip code, institution, etc. as these should be straightforward to collect. A complete list of measures is posted in [include link to common measures repository here] and you will have a chance to comment on them at the end of the survey if you so desire. If you are unable to access the link, contact [insert support contact information here].

Text for Survey #2

Note: Below is additional/subsequent text depending on how many surveys you send to your research teams. The text below was used in the NRMN Coordination Center common measures survey #2.

Thank you for your hard work and responsiveness in helping the [name of research community] community move towards a set of common measures! We recognize the pace has been rapid and we appreciate your efforts to meet the target deadlines.

As the next step, the [coordination center name] is launching a second survey to collect feedback on common measures. The focus of the second survey is [insert survey focus here]. [Include information here on other measures/surveys or on working groups meeting to discuss common measures if appropriate].

As with the first common measures survey, it is important that one person from each team complete the survey. These surveys are your opportunity to share feedback before we finalize the common measures that we agree to use as a community for the next X years. If we do not receive feedback from your team by the deadline, we will assume agreement with the recommended measures. To ensure transparency in selecting common measures for [insert category here] constructs, a comprehensive report of survey responses will be shared with research teams/posted on [insert link to research community site here].

As noted on our posted timeline, the deadline to complete this second survey is [insert deadline here].
