  • Set your expectations about LMS use at the beginning of the semester.
    • OBB uses the LMS both for communication (with instructors and tutors) as well as for in-class writing and homework. Some students may be nervous about using the LMS or computers more generally, and we encourage instructors to acknowledge that anxiety early on. Let students know that digital literacy is a skill that will be taught and practiced—if they have questions, they should feel comfortable asking for assistance.
  • While we don’t ask that instructors report an attendance record, our expectation is that students will attend each week. If a student doesn’t attend class, work with the Education Director or assigned classroom teacher to get the student caught up. Waiting until the student shows up the following week will put the student too far behind.
  • It is important to give students written documentation of changes in the class. Please print and distribute important information in addition to going over it in class.
  • For in-person classes, it’s suggested that you collect in-class writing assignments as a way to keep track of student participation. These assignments might also reveal common struggles with the writing process. It is also suggested that you ask students to share their in-class writing aloud.
