About the Learning Management System (LMS)
- Our LMS is a Canvas-like system provided by Moraine Park Technical College.
- Logging in requires signing into a virtual desktop maintained by MPTC.
- Students are able to message their instructors and tutors through the LMS with questions or concerns.
- Access to the LMS varies based on institution.
- Instructors and tutors can access this platform/desktop on personal devices.
Logging into the LMS
Instructors and tutors use the Learning Management System (LMS) for assignment submissions, feedback, and communication outside classroom time. Each instructor and tutor are given a username and password to login to the LMS in the beginning of the semester.
Your user name and passcode will be provided by the OBB program manager prior to your first tutoring session with the section number for your class(es). You will have the same username and passcode to access the LMS for all sites that you are tutoring at. Instructions for connecting can be found here. You can also access a quick video tutorial on how to connect.
Tip and Tricks
- When opening students’ assignments in Speed Grader, we must download their file onto the virtual desktop, open in Word, comment on them, and then reattach in Speed Grader.
- It is possible to copy and paste from the DOC desktop to your outside desktop.
- It is also possible to upload files into a UW Box folder or Google folders to be accessed later on an outside desktop.
- It is currently not possible to modify the course after its first publication.
- Tutors might receive student questions or requests through the LMS and should respond to these messages via the LMS if possible, or at the next tutoring session.
- Certain students might need encouragement and guidance on using the LMS.
- If tutoring is ever canceled, students may be encouraged to send their work to their tutors for feedback if rescheduling is impossible.
