What Can I Do With HDFS?

**Many occupations and career paths within these areas don’t requires an advanced degree! Do some exploration to determine whether graduate school is the right fit for your goals and interests.

COUNSELING Interested in careers related to mental health, trauma, and substance abuse? HDFS provides preparation for positions in social service organizations as well as for graduate programs required for work in fields like social work, psychology, and counseling. EDUCATION Love supporting others’ learning? Some HDFS students choose to go on to work in childcare, youth service organizations, higher education, adult education, and health education. HDFS also prepares you for graduate programs to pursue teaching (including special education) or other roles in education (like social work, school counseling, school psychology, speech-language pathology).
HEALTHCARE Interested in health-related careers? HDFS students can continue their educations to become nurses, public health administrators, occupational therapists, child life specialists, etc. ExploreHealthCareers.org is also a great resource! ADVOCACY & NON-PROFITS Looking for another avenue to make a difference? Local and national organizations need individuals, like HDFS students, who can combine their knowledge of human development and interventions with excellent administrative and management skills to work on solving social problems. HDFS is also a great background for pursuing law school.
BUSINESS Want to make an impact in business? Companies are always in search of individuals with strong people skills. HDFS students are prepared with essential skills like communicating, listening, and understanding group processes and dynamics. Potential careers in business include human resources, public relations, and training/development.
RESEARCH Interested in the quantitative and qualitative work of figuring things out? HDFS students can pursue entry-level positions providing support to research projects and can continue their research educations to become survey researchers, psychologists, sociologists, and more!
