G2.2 Required Documentation for MA and PhD Applications
- Three letters of recommendation are required for all graduate student applicants, and they should be submitted via the Graduate School’s online application system. Applicants will provide contact information for the three individuals who will furnish recommendations on their behalf. Recommenders will receive via email a link allowing them to upload their letters.
- Unofficial copies of all university transcripts are required. Applicants shall upload them using the Graduate School’s web site. Notarized English translations must accompany all non-English-language transcripts.
- The TOEFL test is required for all applicants whose native language is not English and for those whose undergraduate instruction was not in English. The Graduate School requires a minimum TOEFL score of 92. For more information regarding the TOEFL and its exemptions, please see the Graduate School’s Admissions Requirements. - Statement of Purpose: This statement should describe the applicant’s current degree goals and reasons for selecting the program(s). It can be either in English, Spanish or Portuguese, and it should not exceed a thousand words.
- CV or Resume: The CV should list accomplishments and qualifications including academic honors or distinctions; professional, research, and/or teaching experience; and any publications.
- Writing Sample: PhD applicants only must submit a writing sample between eight and ten pages in length. The topic of the writing sample should be as close as possible to the field in which the applicant wishes to specialize for the doctoral dissertation.
