G3.12 Travel Support for Graduate Students
All funds available to support graduate student research and professional development will be distributed at the discretion of the chair and the Faculty Council.
These funds will be distributed among our graduate students to support activities such as travel to conferences. Some funds may also be used to supplement the recruitment efforts of the Admissions Committee. If funds are left over at the end of the academic year, they may be used at the discretion of the department chair.
Travel to conferences may be supported in two cases:
- ABD students attending the MLA conference as part of their job. For this type of support, the department will distribute no more than 50% of the total funds available. The job search travel grant will be awarded to a graduate student only once; the amount awarded will not exceed $500 per student.
- Graduate students traveling to conferences to present papers or to chair session. Students may apply for this award only once every two years, and priority will be given to those who have not been previously funded. The amount awarded will not exceed $500 per student.
To apply for travel funds, graduate students must complete the “Travel Support Request for Graduate Students”. This form should be completed in advance of conference travel.
Graduate students must first apply for the Graduate School Research and/or Conference Presentation Grants prior to submitting this request.
Graduate students must also ensure that any classes they teach, are covered by another person qualified to teach that course.
