G4.1 Learning Outcomes for MA in Spanish

  1. Articulate, critique, and elaborate the theories, methods, and terminology of the field of study.
  2. Identify and pursue promising avenues of inquiry, find and make use of appropriate bibliography, evaluate or synthesize pertinent information, and analyze evidence.
  3. Demonstrate breadth of knowledge and understanding of the field of study in a historical, socio-cultural and global context.
  4. Develop speaking and writing skills and communicate fluently and clearly in Spanish in ways appropriate to the field of study.
  5. Develop academic professionalization through participation in conferences and other extracurricular activities in preparation for a career path related to the field
  6. Develop effective teaching skills (for beginning and intermediate classes).

MA candidates who expect to continue in the department to pursue the Doctorate are urged to acquire the basic reading knowledge of a second foreign language during their time as MA students. Other Romance languages and Latin are among the standard options, but other academically appropriate languages may be taken instead with the approval of the advisor.
