G9.1 Welcome Week

As per their contract, all teaching assistants (TAs) in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese are expected to be present and available during Welcome Week (also called “Orientation” or “Orientation Week”) in any given semester. Should an emergency prevent a TA from being in residence at the appointed time, that TA is expected to notify in writing both the course coordinator and the chair. Course coordinators are required to inform the chair in writing of any administrative conflict resulting from a TA’s unavailability during Welcome Week. If the reasons adduced by the TA to justify their breach of contract are not judged acceptable, the chair will arrange to dock the TA’s week’s pay on a prorated basis.
