Look at the compass, which has the names of the directions in Russian. Next, pair the Russian terms for these directions with their English equivalents.

The prepositional case is used to talk about locations on a map or when you want to say that something is situated in a specific area, like the north, south, east, or west of a region. Let’s review the prepositional case.

Location is commonly indicated using the verb “находиться” (to be located), paired with the location in the prepositional case, utilizing the prepositions “в” or “на”. For example,
Музей находится в центре города.
Больница находится на улице Шевченко.
When referring to cardinal directions, the preposition “на” is always used: на севере, на юге, на востоке, на севере, на юго-западе, etc. For example:
Нью-Йорк находится на востоке Америки.
Техас находится на юге Америки.
Львов находится на западе Украины.
Астана находится на севере Казахстана.
Note that in these examples, Ukraine, America, and Kazakhstan are in the genitive case to convey the specific location’s relationship to broader areas or regions.
