Ukraine has a rich and complex history, yet the scope of this chapter prevents us from delving into every aspect of it. While we have included some of the most pivotal aspects, it is important to note that this account is by no means exhaustive. Instead, we offer it as a starting point—an invitation for you to embark on further exploration into the fascinating history of Ukraine.

Козак или казак?

The English word “Cossack” refers to both Ukrainian “козаки” and Russian “казаки.” However, it is important to recognize that these are two distinct groups, each with its own unique history and cultural significance. To avoid confusion and to highlight their differences, we use the Ukrainian spelling “козак” specifically when referring to Ukrainian Cossacks in the text below.
