Истории иммигрантов

Most American families have an immigration story. Your task is to find and share one such story by interviewing someone you know. It could be a family member, a friend, a neighbor, or anyone who has an interesting tale about their journey to the United States. They can be from any country, not just Russian-speaking countries.

First, choose your interviewee and prepare several questions to guide your conversation. If your interviewee speaks Russian, prepare your questions in Russian. Here are some questions you may want to ask:

  • Where did you come from?
  • Why did you decide to immigrate to the United States?
  • When did you arrive in the United States?
  • How did you travel to the United States?
  • What were your first impressions of the United States?
  • Where did you first settle in the United States?
  • What kind of work did you do when you first arrived?
  • How did you adapt to the new culture and environment?
  • How did your life change after immigration?
  • Are there any special traditions or customs from your home country that you still practice?

After the interview, write a brief summary or create a short presentation of their story in Russian and, if your interviewee agrees, post it on Padlet. Feel free to post pictures as well, with your interviewee’s permission.
