About the lesson
This lesson will introduce you to the Central Asian country of Kazakhstan (its official name is the Republic of Kazakhstan, or in Russian Республика Казахстан) with a focus on the topic of music.
In this lesson, you will:
- learn some of the basic facts about Kazakhstan
- review vocabulary and grammar related to the topic of music, including about its language, currency, ethnic makeup, religions, and history
- learn some interesting facts about Kazakhstan
- review vocabulary and grammar related to music, including the names of musical instruments and genres, and how to talk about playing a musical instrument
- become acquainted with as well as practice new vocabulary and grammar related to music, including the accusative case, the genitive case, нравиться, любимый
- become acquainted with some Kazakh folk instruments and folk songs
- become acquainted with тойские песни (songs for weddings or other special events)
- read about how Kazakh folk instruments are used in some popular music and advertisements
- listen to some Kazakh popular music and express your opinions about it
- learn about several contemporary Kazakh popular artists through reading and listening
- listen to some popular songs in the Kazakh language
- participate with other students in voting for your favorite songs
- explore music from other countries and share your discoveries with other students
