About the lesson
In this lesson, you will be introduced to the country of Ukraine and will focus on the topic of history and geography.
In this lesson, you will:
- Learn about Ukraine’s language, history, geography, language, prominent cultural figures, and major cities.
- Learn about the Ukrainian alphabet and pronunciation.
- Read about the Ukrainian national poet Taras Shevchenko.
- Learn about symbols of Ukraine, including the national flag, coat of arms, traditional clothing, and more.
- Listen to some Ukrainian songs.
- Learn and practice vocabulary related to geography and history.
- Review and practice grammatical structures commonly used in discussions about geography and history, such as the prepositional case, using numbers to express quantity, third declension nouns, expressing years and centuries, past passive participles, and impersonal sentences.
- Learn about a Ukrainian who played a pivotal role in shaping Europe’s coffee culture.
- Learn about two tragic chapters in Ukraine’s history: the Holodomor and the massacre at Babyn Yar.
- Read about prominent Ukrainian cultural and political figures.
- Explore four major Ukrainian cities: Kyiv, Lviv, Odessa, and Kharkiv.
- Talk about your favorite cities and share photos of your favorite cities with other students.
