Lesson 1: Исторические деятели
Lesson Description:
If this is the first time you are using a RAILS lesson, we recommend that you take a look at the page About the lessons to make sure that you understand how some features of the lessons work.
This is the first lesson based on an interview with Russian historian Aleksandr Logunov. You will watch three clips from an interview with Professor Logunov, and complete exercises based on those clips. You will also read a text about Professor Logunov, listen to texts about some Russian historical figures, and analyze graphs and charts of public opinion polls about some Russian historical figures. The lesson consists of these sections: Введение, Исторические деятели, Образ В. И. Ленина, Две жизни, and Заключение.
You can find the Помощник and Словарь at the end of the lesson for easy reference, but they are also available in the lesson in places where you are most likely to need them.
What You Will Learn:
In this lesson, you will learn about how the images of public figures change over time and about how some remain important in public opinion. You will learn about how the image of Vladimir Lenin changed over time and why, and about how public figures have both a real as well as an invented life. You will analyze surveys of public opinion about some Russian historical figures and about Lenin in particular. You will learn about the similarities between Peter I and Lenin and analyze visual representations of Lenin. You will also choose the correct meaning in a certain context from possible meanings of a word, match questions and answers, identify synonyms, implications, and match referents with corresponding concepts.
Learning Tips:
This lesson will prepare you for your work in the lessons to follow, in which one particular historical figure will be examined. Logunov’s general observations about historical figures in this lesson will be relevant to specific examples in the rest of the lessons in this series.
