Communicating Across the Curriculum: Resources for High-Impact Teaching with Writing at UW–Madison is a practical, research-informed guide designed to help instructors across disciplines teach effectively with writing. Grounded in high-impact educational practices and inclusive pedagogy, this book offers strategies and examples for designing, implementing, and assessing writing in courses of any size or level.

Chapters cover topics such as teaching in Communications-B (Comm-B) courses, designing informal and formal writing assignments, scaffolding and sequencing writing tasks, responding to student writing, and supporting students through peer review, conferences, and attention to language diversity. Special emphasis is given to teaching writing in the age of generative AI.

Whether you’re new to teaching with writing or an experienced writing instructor, this resource will support you to create meaningful, equitable learning experiences through teaching writing.
