Welcome: A Roadmap of this Pressbook
Welcome to Communicating across the Curriculum (CXC), a Pressbook by the UW-Madison Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) program!
This Pressbook is designed to support instructors and teaching assistants who teach writing or teach with writing. We hope this book will inspire you to design writing assignments, activities, and grading criteria in meaningful, inclusive, and intentional ways.
Each section of the Pressbook focuses on a different practice or context for teaching with writing. Within these sections, you will find chapters that explore:
- What: How is this practice or context defined, and what information is needed to understand it?
- Why: What is the rationale for using this practice or teaching writing in this context?
- How: What are research-based strategies for implementing this practice or teaching writing in this context?
- Examples: What can this practice actually look like? Examples are sourced from UW-Madison instructors.
Intrigued by the content of this Pressbook, but wanting to talk through ideas with someone? Contact the WAC team to set up a consultation. We’d love to meet with you!
