Introduction
The enzyme Nitrogenase is one of the most important biological molecules. Without it, life as we know it would not exist on earth. Nitrogenase mediates the process of Biological Nitrogen Fixation which is the biological conversion of N2 to ammonia. Biological Nitrogen Fixation is the only natural process that provides inputs of fixed nitrogen that are sufficient to support life, and plays a pivotal role as the starting point in the Nitrogen cycle. Yet, despite its importance, many key details about how Nitrogenase functions are not fully understood.
This short book provides an in-depth look at this crucial enzyme, and explores what current research is revealing about the mysteries of its inner workings.
