This chapter comprises several key founding-era texts, all of which help to illuminate ideas and practices relating to rights and citizenship in the founding era.

**Note: All of the texts in this chapter are required reading and will be on the next quiz. But you are not required to consider the sources here that date from after 1787 (i.e., from ch. 5.4 and after) for the upcoming midterm essay.
