10 Changing Your Advisor
A program advisor provides support during your time in the program, so each student is assigned an advisor. The advisor-student relationship is one of mutual agreement, and it may be terminated by either party. If you would prefer working with a different advisor, you should discuss this with either the Academic Director, Lindy Stoll, or your prospective advisor.
As a graduate student, you must have an advisor or else you may be suspended from your program by the Graduate School. Be sure to follow procedures to select a new advisor (described above) prior to terminating your current advising relationship. You can confirm that the name of your advisor has been updated in the official record by looking in your Student Center on MyUW under “Academic Progress” and then “Advisors.”
