This is the first in a series of lessons based on an interview with prominent Russian politician Irina Khakamada. This lesson consists of five parts: Ирина Хакамада, Публичный политик, Дивиденды, Выборы, and Заключение.

You will watch and listen to excerpts from the interview, read some texts about current politics in Russia, visit websites of some important Russian political parties, and learn about the presidential election in Russia in 2004.

What You Will Learn:

You will learn about Irina Khakamada, her biography, political views and opinions, and her role in the 2004 presidential election.

You will also learn about some important issues in post-Soviet politics and about major political forces that may well determine the course of contemporary Russian politics. You will work with cohesive devices that connect utterances in speech.
