What Clay can Say

Bacchanalian Dance

Classical Mythology

Interest in the design elements of ancient Greek and Rome was not new, but these jugs told stories. Many mythological tales involved the famed Roman god Dionysus who, with his goat-legged friends, drank wine and made merry. One example is Bacchanalian Dance, where Dionysus is depicted dancing with his satyrs and drinking from his own jug as symbol of excess.
