Making and Molding

International Jug

William Brownfield & Sons. designed this jug in 1862 for the International London exhibition and named the pattern after it. Despite the mass production of wares from William Brownfield & Sons, not much is known about the Staffordshire company. The female figures depicted in the four oval panels represent themes of the exhibition: Art, Music, Science, and Commerce. This jug pattern was still in production in the 1876 William Brownfield & Sons catalog. The design must have been popular. The collector of this jug owns 3 or 4 color variations of this pattern.
