Portland Vase

The original Portland Vase, an ancient Greek artifact, was bought by the English Duke of Portland. The design became popularized in contemporary jugs, such as this one by Samuel Alcock & Co. Wedgwood created an contemporary replica of the piece, imitating the style of the jug and depicting the classical scene.
