What Clay can Say

Samuel and Eli

Religion

Biblical verses were often read, told to others, and depicted on objects. In Samuel and Eli, the young boy proclaims to Eli his vision of the Lord. The imagery on the jug reminds the user of salvation through faith – an important prospect in Christianity. It was based on an 1826 print of an earlier painting by John Singleton Copley (1738-1815).
