What Clay can Say

Falstaff

Sir John Falstaff is a popular character from Shakespeare’s Henry IV plays. He leads Prince Hal, the future King, astray in an act of sheer folly and cowardice. In Shakespeare’s plays, Falstaff is a comical character who spends a lot time drinking at the pub. In Falstaff, we see the knight with a jug of beer upon his knee, likely at the pub.

Telling Stories in Clay

Stories are captivating. They are educational, entertaining, and provoking. During the 19th and 20th centuries, stories were often told through material culture. Molded scenes on jugs told age-old mythological or Biblical tales or drew upon the most up-to-date best-sellers, long-popular poems, or current events to attract customers.
