SoHE Leave of Absence
Students may request a leave of absence from graduate study due to extenuating circumstances by submitting a letter to their advisor outlining the reasons for the request. Leave of absence must always take into consideration the timing of the leave, duration of the leave, and plan to return. The leave should also consider things such as academic progress/milestones, dissertator status, enrollment, funding, and benefits. Leaves are typically reviewed on a semester or year basis with a maximum allowed time period of 2 years. Students on leave will not be enrolled during a semester and will not be considered active university students. Leave requests will be considered by the graduate program committee in the student’s department, and if approved, will be forwarded to the Assistant Dean for Graduate Studies for processing.
