Part 5: The Gradebook
Entering Grades and Leaving Feedback with the Enter Grades Tool
Chances are you will need to enter grades manually for some assignments or activities, and there are a number of different ways to accomplish this in the D2L Gradebook. All the options have the same end result, the grades are posted to the Gradebook. However, there may be an option that works for you better than others. This module will showcase different strategies for entering grades.
Enter Grades from Manage Grades
Step 1:
To access Manage Grades, click on “Grades” on the Nav Bar or from Edit Course.
Step 2:
Find the Grade Item you wish to grade in the Grade Item list. Click on the small arrow to the right of the Grade Item’s title and choose, “Enter Grades.”
Step 3:
Review the details for the Grade Item. If you wish to leave non-specific feedback that is visible to all, you may do so in the “Overall Feedback” field.
Step 4:
Scroll down to see a list of the students in the course. For each student, you will enter the points the student earned on the assignment. You may also leave feedback for the student by clicking on “Feedback.” There you will see two fields. The first is feedback the student can see. The second is comments that only graders can see.
NOTE: If your class roster extends past the first page SAVE your grades and feedback before going on to subsequent pages.
Enter Grades from “Enter Grades”
Step 1:
You may choose to enter grades and provide feedback from within the “Enter Grades” view. This view brings you to the full Gradebook.
Step 2:
Click on “Switch to Spreadsheet View” on the far right side of the Gradebook.
Step 3:
You should now see editable field for each Grade Item column. Fill in the scores. Be sure to save.
Enter Grades for a Single Grade Item in the “Enter Grades” View
You may also want to enter grades and also leave feedback for a single grade item from the Gradebook.
Step 1:
Find the column header for the Grade Item you wish to enter grades for. Click on the small, black arrow and choose “Grade All.”
Step 2:
This will take you to the same grading page you can get to through “Manage Grades.” Follow the instructions above for grading in this view.
