Part 5: The Gradebook

Introduction

Using the Gradebook and grading functions in D2L can seem daunting at first.  It is complex and contains numerous redundancies that can be confusing. However, once one becomes familiar with D2L’s idiosyncrasies, the tool can greatly assist in student grading.

This section will first introduce you to the pedagogy of feedback and explain how to build a grading system that helps foster student learning, not just report it. Next this section will explain how to build a Gradebook in D2L, connect activities to grades, use rubrics, and create grading schemes.

Learning Objectives

By the end of Part 5 you should be able to:

  • Set up your Gradebook.
  • Manage your Gradebook.
  • View discussion posts and Dropbox submissions through the Gradebook.
  • Provide feedback through the Gradebook.
