DS PhD Timeline by Year
First and Second Years
- Take and complete a majority of coursework
- Identify and complete a doctoral minor
- Complete Qualifying Research Project
- Begin identifying dissertation research topic and supporting materials
- Form the preliminary exam committee
Third Year
- Complete remaining coursework
- Complete preliminary examinations and achieve dissertator status
- Complete Dissertation Proposal and Presentation
Fourth Year and beyond
- Enroll in DS 990 credits (3 each semester) after completing preliminary exam and achieving dissertator status
- Dissertation research and writing
- Final oral defense
- Dissertation depositĀ
- Degree awarded
