Hausa
Counting
Counting in Hausa follows a pattern that makes it quite easy to learn. Once you learn 1-9 and base numbers, you can essentially count to infinity!
Counting 1-10:
One | Daya |
Two | Biyu |
Three | Uku |
Four | Hudu |
Five | Biyar |
Six | Shidda |
Seven | Bakwai |
Eight | Takwas |
Nine | Tara |
Ten | Goma |
Counting 10-20
Ten | Goma |
Eleven | Goma Sha Daya |
Twelve | Goma Sha Biyu |
Thirteen | Goma Sha Uku |
Fourteen | Goma Sha Hudu |
Fifteen | Goma Sha Biyar |
Sixteen | Goma Sha Shidda |
Seventeen | Goma Sha Bakwai |
Eighteen | Goma Sha Takwas |
Nineteen | Goma Sha Tara |
Twenty | Ashirin |
Counting 20-30
Twenty | Ashirin |
Twenty-one | Ashirin da Daya |
Twenty-two | Ashirin da Biyu |
Twenty-three | Ashirin da Uku |
Twenty-four | Ashirin da Hudu |
Twenty-five | Ashirin da Biyar |
Twenty-six | Ashirin da Shidda |
Twenty-seven | Ashirin da Bakwai |
Twenty-eight | Ashirin da Takwas |
Twenty-nine | Ashirin da Tara |
Thirty | Talatin |
Counting 30+
For numbers in the thirties and beyond, you follow the same structure as 20-30:
Base number (30, 40, 50, etc.) + da + secondary number (1-9)
So all that is left to learn are the base numbers. Here they are for 10-100:
Ten | Goma |
Twenty | Ashirin |
Thirty | Talatin |
Forty | Arbain |
Fifty | Hamsin |
Sixty | Sittin |
Seventy | Sabain |
Eighty | Tamanin |
Ninety | Tasani |
One-hundred | Dari |
Now you try!
