Telling Time

What time is it? Karfe nawa ne?

Responses:

it is # o’clock Karfe # ne
it is #:## Karfe # da minti ## ne

Examples:

It is four o’clock. Karfe hudu ne.

It is 3:10. Karfe uuku da minti goma ne.

 

Other expressions of time:

Quarter to # Karfe # suara kwata
Quarter after # Karfe # da kwata
Half past # Karfe # da rabi

Examples:

It is quarter to 5. Karfe hudu suara kwata ne.

It is half past six. Karfe shida da rabi ne.

**note that you can also use the previous convention to say “it is three forty-five” rather than “it is quarter to four,” “it is three thirty” rather than “it is half past three,” etc.
