Lesson Objectives:

By the end of this lesson, learners will be able to:

  • Understand the main plot and characters in a Hausa story.

  • Identify new Hausa vocabulary and use an online dictionary to find meanings.

  • Discuss the story’s moral lessons and social commentary in spoken Hausa.

  • Write a short reflective summary in Hausa using new vocabulary.


Lesson Breakdown

Part 1: Listening and Watching (10 minutes)

Activity Steps:

  1. Watch the video Tatsuniyar Zaki Da Bera once without pausing.

  2. Watch it a second time and take notes on:

    • What happened in the story (summary of events)

    • Who are the main characters (mutane ko dabbobi?)

    • Any new or interesting words or phrases you hear

Resource Use:
After watching, open Kamus.com.ng and look up at least five new words you noted down. Write both the Hausa word and its English meaning in your notebook.

Part 2: Speaking and Discussion (25 minutes)

Activity Steps:

  1. Without looking at your notes, talk with your language partner about:

    • What do you remember about the story?

    • What can you learn from this story?

    • What kind of social commentary (al’amuran al’umma) does it show?
      (e.g., power, wisdom, community, humanity, etc.)

    • Which parts were confusing or unclear, and why?

  2. Encourage partners to correct and help each other with pronunciation or word choice.

Resource Use:
Learners may use the dictionary again only when they cannot express an idea in Hausa.

Part 3: Writing (10 minutes or homework)

Assignment:
Write a short summary (150–200 words) in Hausa that includes:

  1. What the story is about.

  2. The characters and what they did.

  3. The moral or lesson you learned.

  4. At least five new words you discovered and used in context.

Resource Use:

  • Use Kamus.com.ng to double-check word meanings and spelling.

  • You may also rewatch parts of the video for accuracy.
