A Lesson in Yoruba About Marriage in Real-time (by Ajara Jagne)

E kaabo! The lesson that I am sharing today is actually a part of a research project that I did while in Nigeria this summer 2025. I interviewed different men, and from these men got different perspectives from men living in Ibadan from ages 20 to 30 about their perspectives on marriage. I asked them 9 different questions and in this lesson for today I go over the questions I asked and the answers they gave, and what stood out the most in my research. This Yoruba lesson is particularly focused more so on the cultural aspects and lived experiences of Yoruba men living in Yoruba communities in Nigeria today. The link to the presentation in Yoruba is below. The title of the presentation in English is: “Thoughts on Marriage in Yoruba Culture Real-time: A Set of Interviews and Analysis’.” As a guide, the questions asked had to do with the participants describing themselves and their religions, speaking about which party they think is more important in marriage, and more. This lesson is a bit longer than usual; however, it is an important lesson that teaches about an important aspect of Yoruba life and Yoruba culture.
